VOCALOID NIGHT to be held after SMASH!

If there's one thing that Australia is missing out on, it's J-Pop. Beyond SBS Pop-Asia, we just don't get anything arriving on our shores. Well, that's all about to change.

The fine folks from SMASH have gone one step beyond and are bringing a one night only event to Sydney. Other states have had pop-up cafes but they ain't got nothing on this.

What better way to cap off an awesome day of conventioning than partying into the night with your fellow geeks.

Follow on after the jump for all of the details on VOCALOID NIGHT 2013!

Sydney, NSW, June 23, 2013 – The fun does not end at 6:00pm for SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) as SMASH! is proud to present ‘Vocaloid Night 2013’ -- a unique music event that will place Sydney as the #1 place for Japanese music sub-culture fans.

For one night only at Cockle Bay Wharf’s Pontoon Bar, SMASH! will host a night dedicated to the music genre that is dubbed ‘Vocaloid Music’. On this night, attendees will be able to see world famous Vocaloid-based music creators and DJs spinning original tunes from the popular character attributing to Vocaloid’s success, Hatsune Miku.

SMASH! is delighted to announce music creator, remixer and DJ Hachioji P (8#Prince) and music producer and DJ kz(livetune) will be performing at Vocaloid Night 2013.

Crowned as the ‘Prince of Vocaloid music’, DJ Hachioji P is an internationally recognized Vocaloid artist. With a view count of over 8million, his most famous works include ‘Sweet Devil’ and ‘Electric Love’, made in collaboration with MMD (Miku Miku Dance) producer Wakamura P. This fame ultimately led him to produce music for musicians Shouka Nakagawa and Hikari Shiina, and arranging music for artists such as Kikkawa Yuu, Watanabe Mayu (AKB48) and Hirano Aya.

DJ Hachioji P has also worked with fellow Vocaloid creators such as Vocaloid Night 2013’s other major guest kz(livetune). Kz(livetune) made his first major debut with ‘Re: package’ in 2008, and since then, he has contributed to the worldwide success of Hatsune Miku with his hit song ‘Redial’ where the music video was created in collaboration with famous designer Takashi Murakami.

Kz is also well-known for his song ‘Tell Your World’ which was featured in Google Japan’s advertising campaign for Google Chrome. More recently, he has collaborated with various artists, including KOTOKO, ClariS, Maon Kurosaki, Ryo of Supercell and Nakajima Megumi.

“Vocaloid Night 2013 is an event where people can get together after the SMASH! convention, and listen and dance to Vocaloid music,” Project Director of Vocaloid Night 2013 Andrew Qiu said.

“Since there is an entertainment focus at this year’s SMASH! convention, Vocaloid Night 2013 is the perfect opportunity for Australian fans of Japanese popular culture to experience a Vocaloid music event first-hand.”

The guest list doesn’t stop there! Joining the party will be local DJ artists, including trance DJ Taki06R, DJ ZANNEN from Melbourne and DJ Catalystic from Neko Nation, as these guests will be taking the stage and entertaining the audience as well.

It won’t be long before these Vocaloid DJ guests descend upon Sydney. Vocaloid Night 2013 is strictly an 18 years (and over) event and will be held for one night only.
