Read, Watch, Play! Ep.19 Live from Oz Comic-con

Image
After a prolonged hiatus Read, Watch, Play! is back for another episode. Stu, Chris and myself caught up at Oz comic-con Sydney and manged to record a podcast a quick podcast. We talk all things Oz comic-con, Chris talks about his dinner with Karl Urban, Stu talks about the creatively titled Louie Theroux documentary 'My Scientology movie' and I just generally laugh and nod. As always the podcast is jam packed full of rants and ramblings on pop-culture topped with a healthy portion of piss-taking. All in all it's everything you have come to expect from a Geek of Oz podcast! As you have no doubt figured out by now any sense of scheduling has been thrown out the window and at this point we will just try and get an episode of Read, Watch, Play! out when ever we can. On the bright-side Stu and Billy have been absolutely killing it with there film and television focused podcast We like to Watch. Episodes drop every week or so and you can check out the latest installment he...

READ, WATCH, PLAY! EPISODE EIGHTEEN: BINGEWORTHY

Image
HOLY DELAYED SCHEDULING BATMAN! WE FINALLY HAVE A NEW EPISODE. So it's been a while. As you would have no doubt noticed it's been over a month since we last had an episode of Read, Watch, Play. Unfortunately 'real life' continues to get the better of us making meeting up to talk all things pop-culture much harder then we would like. That said Stu and Billy have started the brand spanking new film-centric pod-cast on the Geek of Oz network, 'We like to watch' so be sure to check it out to get your fix of our particular brand of bullshit.  As for this episode the intention was to talk about binge worthy television shows, comics and films (which we touch on a little) but instead we end up talking about Will Smith, the new Ghostbusters film and why I'm addicted to Hearthstone.  As per our new format this show is pretty loose, although we cover read watch play a little bit, what ended up unfolding was an organic (and hopefully interesting!) conv...

READ, WATCH, PLAY! EPISODE SIXTEEN: GX AUSTRALIA

Image
Christof and I took the reins for this week's episode as we attended GX Australia over the weekend! GX Australia is Australia's first queer gaming convention and was a weekend-long celebration of everything gaming an geek related. The event had over 50 exhibitors ranging from the local Australian indie video game scene, international companies, local artists, talented creatives and much more. Christof and myself interviewed quite a few game developers as well trying as many of the games on offer! We also discussed the Midnighter comic and how it links to LGBTIQ culture as a cape style comic at a large publisher. You will also notice the podcast is going through a different format this week. We've decided to try some new things out and see how it works. We want the podcast to run smoother and be more of a conversation with you our audience. As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and reviews us on iTunes or drop us some fe...

Image
It's been a big week. We got our first taste of the Warcraft trailer, heard that there is going to be a new Star Trek series, plus we got our first look at AMC's Preacher. Also I finally figured out what that strange rash on my upper thigh was, but that's neither here nor there. For all our thoughts on the pop-culture week that was plus what we have been reading, watching and playing get episode eleven of Read, Watch,Play! in your ears. Plus we are joined by special guest and frequent listener Mitchell Hall. As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and review us on iTunes or drop us some feedback below! Really keen to have your input in the show. Godzilla (PS4) Review

Image
THE SHORT VERSION I'm not sure if it'd be fair to call Godzilla a movie tie-in game, but it certainly feels like one. It's the kind of exercise in brand management designed to give the illusion of wish-fulfillment - "Wow, I get to play as Godzilla after watching him smash buildings for two hours? Awesome!" - and instead delivers an experience that admirably disappoints (I'll explain that odd dichotomy later). Godzilla is not the game I expected, nor was it the game I was hoping for. Other reviewers have already savaged it to kingdom come, but I don't feel as strongly as they do. It was definitely flawed, but in an endearing way, like a paperback novel scribed by a crayon-wielding Kindergartener. There have been worse attempts at monster-destruction simulators, and there have been better. Whether you'll want to play it or not depends heavily on that dichotomy I mentioned, which I'll endeavour to explain below. STORY You are Godzilla....

Image
Massive show this week. Our resident movie guy, Stu, saw like 17 films at the Sydney Film festival, we all saw Jurassic world and E3 is happening. So yeah big is kind of an understatement.  As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and reviews us on iTunes or drop us some feedback below! Really keen to have your input in the show. -Christof This week's discussion topic: Better than the book Get it from Podomatic here Get it from Itunes here Upcoming events: MelbourneOz comic-con is happening from June 27 to 28 at the Melbourne convention and exhibition centre. Read, Watch, Play! Episode two: Madly in love with Mad Max

Image
Hey Guys!  Here it is, episode two of Read, watch, play! Available now on iTunes and Podomatic! Just Stu and lil ol' me this week as Billy and Chris had 'real life responsibilities'.Pffffffft. As the title suggests we talk all about Mad Max Road Fury. And by talk I actually mean gush. Like all over the place. Repeatedly. We really, really, really really, really dig this film. Plus Stu squeezes in some quick reviews of Tommorrowland and Women in Gold and I blab about comics for a bit. In case you haven't picked it up, this is very much a 'watch' heavy episode. If that wasn't enough to have you salivating and rushing to download the podcast then surely this will: WE HAVE ANOTHER COMPETITION!!!!! Yay Free stuff!!! obviously you have to listen to the podcast to find out how to enter. Like last episode we say shit a few more times and there is a bit of innuendo  (Stu and I were alone in a room together, what were you expecting!??!?) so just an FYI. Ho...

Game News - Injustice: Gods Among Us Reveals Catwoman

Image
Injustice: Gods Among Us looks insane! It has exactly what every superhero game needs, scale. Instead of punching on like mere mortals, the folks at NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive are creating a game that is every bit as epic as a superhero beat em' up should be.  The big question is, how will the less powerful characters fare? Characters like, I don't know, Catwoman for instance? Well, check out the all new reveal trailer below to find out!

Game News - Penny Time Hits iOS

Image
Look, I'm not the hippest kid around so I wasn't even sure what the hell a Penny Time was until I received a mysterious email in my inbox. Is it something to do with the Facebook? Inspector Gadget's niece? A defunct form of Australian currency? To wrap my head around it I jumped on my iPhone and downloaded the free lite version of what turned out to be a fantastic side scrolling skateboard/rhythm game with beautiful graphics, exceptional physics and a brilliant soundtrack. Needless to say, I forked out the whole 99 cents for the full version and have been playing ever since. I'd be lying if I said that no bonus points were earned by having Aussies involved in the production of this game and Penny Skateboards... Some call it bias, I call it patriotism.
