Episode 50! Stu and Billy are back at the flicks this week to discuss their Top 5 Films of 2017 So Far, and also catch a screening of Baby Driver . Baby Driver is written and directed by Edgar Wright ( Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Wolrd ) and stars Ansel Elgort ( The Divergent Series ) as talented getaway driver Baby, who relies on the beat of his own personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. Can you believe it? Geek of Oz is officially 1,000 posts old! After starting Geek of Oz all on my lonesome, it has now grown to be something that I'm immensely proud of. Not only is it a website/blog that I'd want to visit myself, but it's also home to 8 of the coolest geeks I've been privileged to know.  Over the past few years I've experienced things that, as a geek myself, I never would have dreamed of. In the early days I was lucky enough to interview Neil Gaiman in the foyer of a Hobart hotel, just the two of us and much tea. This interview would eventually be my first published work with Mark Millar contacting me personally to use the interview in the pages of CLiNT magazine in the UK. Soon after, I took a road trip Mr Gaiman's wife, Amanda Palmer , and her tour manager, a beautiful man by the name of Eric Sussman . Edgar Wright’s latest film The World’s End draws to a close a trilogy of some of the most entertaining, genre-hopping and innovative films that have graced cinemas in the past few years. Known as the ‘Cornetto’ trilogy, the films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and now The World’s End have set the benchmark for British comedy films. Each has had a distinct genre, although there are common thematic threads woven throughout each instalment. The World’s End is not only a hilariously witty science fiction tale but also a prime example of Edgar Wright’s accomplishment as both a storyteller and a director. 

Wednesday the 17th of July 2013 will go down in history as one of the best geek days of my life. This was the day that I interviewed Edgar Wright as well taking part in a roundtable interview of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. A big thanks to Shane, Jorge from Spotlight Report  and the man behind Graffiti with Punctuation and 2UE's That Movie Show , Blake Howard.  Leading up to the roundtable interview with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I had an encounter with the lads that will remain in my memory forever.

Today I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with director of The World's End, Edgar Wright, in a very plush Sydney hotel. If I sound like a complete bumbling fanboy, it's because I am. However, Mr Wright was incredibly giving of his time and an absolute delight to speak with. It's quite obvious that this is a man that is well chuffed with his lot in life and grateful that we fans are along for the ride. Having seen the film, it is every bit as fantastic as the previous 2 films in the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) and then some. With drama, comedy and a fistful of action thrown in for good measure, The World's End is a must see for fans of Edgar's films.

The Tin Tin comics were among the first comics that I could get my hands on. Along with Asterix, they were always plentiful in my school library. This is probably because of the wholesome stories that take place in fantastic yet real locales. It was the perfect "get out of gaol free card" for lazy geography and history teachers. Excitingly, Paramount Australia is bringing Tin Tin to the silver screen. The screenplay has been written by Joe Cornish (The Adam and Joe Show), Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) and Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and directed by Steven Spielberg.
