Captain's Log Episode 12. Stu and Billy go intergalactic this week as they review Stark Trek Beyond!  Directed by Justin Lin, this is third Star Trek film in the rebooted franchise, and 13th Star Trek movie overall.  Set 3 years after the previous film (Star Trek Into Darkness) the crew of the Enterprise are halfway through their 5 year exploratory mission of space. In the furthest reaches of know space they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.  As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and reviews us on iTunes or drop us some feedback below! Given there’s not too much out at the cinema worth shouting about at the moment, I suggest you check out Kill Me Three Times.  It's a darkly comedic film about hitman Charlie Wolfe (Simon Pegg) who’s having one of those classic bad days. Death and destruction is the order of the day, as a relatively simple contract killing quickly spins out of control, with poor Charlie continuously in the wrong place at the wrong time. Directed by Kriv Stenders ( Red Dog ) who delivers an entertaining little film which flaunts the picturesque Western Australian shooting locations. Kill Me Three Times will appeal to anyone who got a kick out of films like You’re Next , Seven Psychopaths and Getting Square; the David Wenham/Sam Worthington film from a few years back. Can you believe it? Geek of Oz is officially 1,000 posts old! After starting Geek of Oz all on my lonesome, it has now grown to be something that I'm immensely proud of. Not only is it a website/blog that I'd want to visit myself, but it's also home to 8 of the coolest geeks I've been privileged to know.  Over the past few years I've experienced things that, as a geek myself, I never would have dreamed of. In the early days I was lucky enough to interview Neil Gaiman in the foyer of a Hobart hotel, just the two of us and much tea. This interview would eventually be my first published work with Mark Millar contacting me personally to use the interview in the pages of CLiNT magazine in the UK. Soon after, I took a road trip Mr Gaiman's wife, Amanda Palmer , and her tour manager, a beautiful man by the name of Eric Sussman . Edgar Wright’s latest film The World’s End draws to a close a trilogy of some of the most entertaining, genre-hopping and innovative films that have graced cinemas in the past few years. Known as the ‘Cornetto’ trilogy, the films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and now The World’s End have set the benchmark for British comedy films. Each has had a distinct genre, although there are common thematic threads woven throughout each instalment. The World’s End is not only a hilariously witty science fiction tale but also a prime example of Edgar Wright’s accomplishment as both a storyteller and a director. 

Wednesday the 17th of July 2013 will go down in history as one of the best geek days of my life. This was the day that I interviewed Edgar Wright as well taking part in a roundtable interview of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. A big thanks to Shane, Jorge from Spotlight Report  and the man behind Graffiti with Punctuation and 2UE's That Movie Show , Blake Howard.  Leading up to the roundtable interview with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I had an encounter with the lads that will remain in my memory forever.

The Mission Impossible franchise gets its fourth director in four films making for an all new feel while maintaining levels of action that could make a grown man SQUEE! Brad Bird of The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Iron Giant fame takes the helm in the holiday seasons biggest blockbuster which hits cinemas and IMAX on December 15th. The United States government disband and disavow the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) when they become implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin. Things quickly go from bad to worse for Ethan Hunt and his team when they decide to go rogue in order to catch the criminal mastermind who framed them. Your mission, if you choose to accept it...

Sadly I wasn't invited to the Sydney premiere of the new Mission Impossible film, not that I'm bitter or anything... no really, I'm not... WHY WON'T YOU BELIEVE ME? Anyway, I've been sent a clip of Director Brad Bird and everyone's favourite geek made good, Simon Pegg, goofing around at the Sydney premiere. Check it out after the jump!

A couple of months ago you may have heard me "squee" over the official Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol trailer. Well... you may have just heard it again. Check out the two thrilling clips after the jump of Jeremy Renner's "leap of faith" and make sure that you keep coming back for more because our review of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol will be up in just a couple of days!

I must make an admission, I thought that the Mission Impossible franchise (and Cruise) should hang up their boots. That is, until I saw the latest trailer. It seriously looks like a great fun action movie and any film with Simon Pegg has to be enjoyable at the very least. Check out the trailer after the jump.
