WE LIKE TO WATCH: EPISODE THIRTY FOUR - SILENCE

Image
Episode 34! Stu and Billy are back this week to discuss Silence ! Silence  is a historical drama film directed by Martin Scorsese ( The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, The Aviator ) and is based on the book of the same name by Shusaku Endo. The story focuses on two Christian missionaries, Sebastiao Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Francisco Garupe (Adam Driver), who travel to Japan in search of their Mentor Father Cristovao Ferreira (Liam Neeson). At this time Christianity was outlawed in Japan and the priests presence forbidden. The film also features Tadanobu Asano, Issey Ogata, Shinya Tsukamoto. As well as the film, Stu and I discuss what else we've been watching this week, and look over the latest in movie news. As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and reviews us on iTunes or drop us some feedback below! Really keen to have your input in the show. Enjoy!               ...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (PS4) Review

Image
For quite a while there it was difficult to find a good quality video game based on a comic book, not to mention a film. So it comes as no surprise that The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a game based on a film which is based on a comic book, is rather lacklustre. Sure, swinging around the city is fun but it's been done, and done rather well, for many a Spider game. Luckily for me, and for this game, I'm a Spidey fan. Spidey has been my absolute favourite since I was a wee chap. Whether it was his wise-cracking nature or everyman demeanour, there was just something that drew me to ol' webhead. So unless this game had absolutely no redeeming qualities, there's a good chance that I'd enjoy it. Swinging around the city is fun, and is probably one of the best things about the game but even that has its issues. The camera has a tendency to bug out (pun intended), particularly when you transfer from web-slinging to wall-climbing. There's nothing particularly new abo...

Movie Review - The Amazing Spider-Man

Image
The Amazing Spider-Man (ASM) finds itself swinging between blockbusters The Avengers and the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises . An unenviable place to be, to be sure, but thankfully everybody's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man delivers on almost every front. Much like Christopher Nolan's entry into the Batman universe, director Marc Webb ( 500 Days of Summer) has delivered a reboot that is marginally darker than it's predecessor without stooping to jazz-flute dance numbers and black hair dye. Instead, as with 500 Days, ASM a story that delivers legitimate emotion and character growth while still embracing, and excelling, in its position as a summer blockbuster movie of the comic book variety.

Hey there web-heads! As any good geek knows, The Amazing Spider-Man is due to swing into Australian theatres on July 4th and to celebrate, we have 10 in-season double passes to give away! "The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-al...

The 4th of July might be Independence Day for our American friends but for me, perhaps for the rest of my life, the 4th of July will be The Amazing Spider-Man day. Okay, that may be a little bit of an  overreaction but honestly, I'm really jazzed to see Spidey back in action. This new trailer gives us a better look at Doc Connors, The Lizard and of course our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Movie Previews - The Amazing Spider-Man

Image
At 5:00pm this afternoon I had the absolute pleasure of joining a cinema chock full of my fellow geeks for an exclusive preview of The Amazing Spider-Man. This wasn't just any preview, this was the WORLD PREMIERE of the preview. It's no secret that I'm a massive geek and Spider-Man is by far my childhood favourite. I enjoyed the recent Sam Raimi helmed films but after seeing this all new trailer and some footage that is still in post production, there is no comparison. I'll put it this way. Tobey Maguire is to Andrew Garfield as Val Kilmer is to Christian Bale. No, really. Director Marc Webb (his surname is Webb, how can this go wrong?) blew my mind with 500 Days of Summer and it looks as though he brings his mastery of the human element to The Amazing Spider-Man. In the 20 minutes of footage that I saw, I was reassured that this is going to something special. Marc Webb has created the Spider-Man that I had always imagined. Please, follow on after the jump for the off...

Movie News - Spiderman goes to the Opera

No this isn't some crappy gag or bootlegged clip. What we have here is a fantastic piece of worldwide viral advertising the likes of which we have never seen. Scour YouTube and you'll find similar clips from Japan, Mexico and Russia but arguably none more iconic than that of our fair Sydney Opera House. The Amazing Spider-Man is set for an Australian release on the 4th of July 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr Connors/The Lizard and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. Being directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer), I can only hope that he exhibits an equally deft touch in the realm of my favourite comic character, our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Check out the clip after the jump!
