Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Image
Before I start this review I need to be up front about something. I've been reading comics from a very young age, mostly Marvel, and I still read them now. I suppose you could call me a bit of a fanboy when it comes to the Marvel Universe and their diverse range of characters. Now that we've got that out of the way, I can honestly say that even if I wasn't a Marvel fanboy, I'd still love and enjoy Captain America: The Winter Soldier as much as I do. The ninth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has Cap and Black Widow working for Nick Fury when S.H.I.E.L.D comes under attack from an unknown enemy. Without knowing who they can trust, they must uncover the enemy before it destroys them all. The script is very much akin to a 70’s political/spy thriller that delivers on all accounts, which has relevance even to this date about the true cost and meaning of freedom. Steve Rogers is a man out time, and that fee...

Django Unchained Review

Image
Over the course of an all but faultless career, Quentin Tarantino has dealt with a range of topics that are controversial to say the least. From his take on 1970's blaxplotation films in Jackie Brown, an horrific rape scene in Kill Bill, Nazi's in Inglorious Basterds and now pre-civil war slavery in Django Unchained, Tarantino has always pulled it off with an incredible lack if community reaction. Sure, parents associations complain about violence and Spike Lee complains about the overt use of the "N" word, but generally his films are labelled "controversial" before being widely accepted by audiences. It seems to be Tarantino's honesty that allows this to happen. Honesty and the completely in-your-face, over the top way that he approaches these topics. He makes them larger than life, puts a spotlight on the elephant in the room, demystifies it and takes away its power.

Movie News - RoboCop Returns in 2013

Image
In 1987 the world was introduced to RoboCop, a one man army and the future of law enforcement. As with many fantastic properties from the 1980's, RoboCop will return to the screen in an all new film directed by Brazilian José Padilha. Not much has been announced regarding the film although a handful of images from the "official" OmniCorp website show designs for the XT-908 aerial vehicle and bipedal badass ED-209 so we can at least expect round 2 between RC and ED. Today, Colombia Pictures and MGM announce that production on the star-studded sic-fi action blockbuster is set to officially commence on the 15th of September in Toronto, Canada. Check out the full press release after the jump!
