The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 - Review

Image
Following two exhilarating instalments, The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 serves more as a point of reflection for the franchise, allowing its characters to recover both emotionally and physically, before building to what promises to be an enthralling climax. I can’t say I had as much fun with this film as I did with the preceding ones, but in fairness The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 has to be viewed in the context of the entire story. If this were a ten-part television series then this film would be equivalent to episodes 6, 7 and 8, so one must appreciate the role it has to play in setting up the finale. After all she’s endured, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is suffering from PTSD - understandable given what she’s experienced up to this point. Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Review

Image
Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a fantastic sequel to 2012s box-office-colossal The Hunger Games . This film builds perfectly upon its predecessor and will leave fans salivating for what’s to come. I proclaimed my adoration for the franchise last year when I reviewed  The Hunger Games and I’m so excited about how this story seems to be shaking down.

The Expendables 2 is a wank, a 103 minute long masturbatory session. The first Expendables film was a ludicrous testosterone filled gun fest and apparently, The Expendables have been on the juice since. The second outing in what is undoubtedly a burgeoning franchise is full of so much ham and cheese that it completely destroys any possible chance of being kosher on any level.

The Hunger Games - Review

Image
Apparently every person in the world has already read The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins and so they weren’t surprised when it was announced that the popular novels would be turned into a Hollywood blockbuster. I have not read the novels and knew little of the film heading into it, I hadn’t even seen the trailer which has been pretty hard to avoid. I loved this film for the simple reason that it was bold in its ideas and executed precisely. The Hunger Games should be a new bench mark in how books are adapted to films, they may be excellent novels in their own right but when a book is converted to film it has to obey the rules of cinema, otherwise it won’t be entertaining or engaging and The Hunger Games is exactly that. The Hunger Games is the story of a futuristic America which has been turned into thirteen districts, which consist of twelve rural/industry districts and a capitol which is a hive of flamboyant costumes and advanced technology. Approximately seven...
