How Donald Trump made me watch The Room

Image
Earlier this year I made the foolish claim that President Trump wouldn’t be President by year’s end. To make matters worse, I chose to wager on this preposterous assertion with fellow Geek of Oz crew member Chris. If El Presidente was gone, Chris would have to read and review The Art of the Deal by Trump, and if he wasn’t, I would finally check out Tommy Wiseau’s The Room . Sigh. Damn you Trump! Fair to say this brings to an end my betting career on global politics. I’d always resisted seeing The Room , for the simple fact that I don’t need to intentionally watch bad films. I never ventured into the “it’s so bad it’s good” realm of the cinematic galaxy. It’s just not for me. Now in fairness to  The Room , I attended a special screening at a local cinema, who have been doing it for 4 years. Packed house. I threw the spoons. I yelled at the screen. I endured the horrific performances. Suffered through brain-numbing writing. Nearly threw up at the awkward sex scenes. But...

This is The End Review by Gene Rich

Image
Imagine you and a bunch of mates decided to make a movie. Now imagine you’re best friends are Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and throw in Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Michael Cera and Craig Robinson just for good measure. Now imagine you’re given millions of dollars to make the most ridiculous, no holds barred apocalypse movie where the only notable girl in the film is Emma Watson. Sounds like a dream, right? Welcome to This is the End.

Spring Breakers - Review by Stu Coote

Image
From what I can gather, American students see spring break as an opportunity to ditch their text books, morals and clothing and hit the nearest beach, basically converting it into Sodom and/or Gomorrah.   Spring break is so popular that it’s spawned an entire industry of film makers following drunken almost-women around as they debase themselves. Spring Breakers , the latest film by provocateur Harmony Korine ( Trash Humpers, Gummo ), follows four friends who risk everything just to join the party, but ultimately each getting far more than they bargained for. Korine skewers the spring break dream with a bitingly cynical look at a generation of lost souls all searching for their meaningless fifteen minutes of fame.

*CLOSED* Win Spring Breakers Tickets

Thanks to our pals over at Icon Film Distribution we have 10 in-season double passes to see Spring Breakers. Our buddy Andrew Buckle over at Graffiti With Punctuation said of Spring Breakers "There are unforgettable scenes" and praised it for what is "surely the best use of a Britney Spears song in a film ever". Prepare to be shocked and surprised in SPRING BREAKERS, as Disney darlings Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens turn up the heat in a vacation they will never forget. When a group of college girls on Spring break land themselves in jail, they are bailed out by a local arms dealer and shown the ropes of a life that requires no college education. Alien (James Franco) takes them under his wing, providing a lavish home complete with a bed of cash, a grand piano by the pool and plenty of guns to keep them occupied. Together they embark on a wild ride on the wild side and show that good girls go to heaven and bad girls go to ‘Spring Break. In cinemas May 9. Plea...

Oz the Great and Powerful Review

Image
It's hard not to acknowledge Tim Burton's foray into Disney's Wonderland as the financier of Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful. After pulling in a cool billion worldwide, it makes good business sense for The House of Mouse to keep that CGI ball rolling. Oscar Diggs (James Franco), affectionately known as Oz is a small time carnival flim-flam man come magician. Travelling from town to town he courts many a small town girl, much to the chagrin of his faithful sidekick Frank (Zach Braff). Everything changes when he and his hot air balloon are caught in a twister and transported to the land of Oz. This is where the adventure begins.

Movie Trailer - Oz The Great and Powerful

Image
Directed by Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man) and produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman), Oz the Great and Powerful is shaping up to be a film of undeniable pedigree. Add to the mix a smattering of todays hottest young actors and you've got yourself what will undoubtedly be an epic fantasy film. Acting as a prequel to Frank L. Baum's original text, Oz the Great and Powerful tells the story of how Oz (James Franco) arrived in a magical land, became known to Glinda (Michelle Williams), Theodora (Mila Kunis) and Evanora (Rachel Weisz) before eventually ruling one the entire land of OZ! Check out the trailer after the jump!
