About Time - Review

Image
Ok geekers, here's the thing; There's not going to be much I can tell you that will make you want to see this movie if you haven't already made up your mind. If you see the phrase "from the makers of Notting Hill and Love Actually " and think to yourself, "I'd rather watch The Matrix for the 100th time." then go and watch The Matrix and save yourself from About Time . If by any chance you're one of those with a penchant for a flick with a dash of British wit and a pretty American starlet doing her best to down play her beauty then this is the movie for you.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - Review

Image
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is the first in a series of movie adaptations based upon novels by Cassandra Clare. Don’t worry I haven’t read the books either and I have to say after seeing this movie, I don't plan to. I checked out Harald Zwart’s bio (Director) and found that he’d directed Agent Cody Banks and Pink Panther 2 and well, yeah . When I read that Stephanie Meyer, of Twilight fame, said that this "is a world I love to live in." I cringed and considered what this could possibly mean.

Despicable Me 2 Review

Image
Despicable Me 2 is the latest release from Illumination Entertainment and has really stepped up as a major contender in a market dominated by Disney and Pixar. The animation is truly creative and perhaps the best use of 3D I've seen to date. Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig are as funny in live action as they are in the animated form.

This is The End Review by Gene Rich

Imagine you and a bunch of mates decided to make a movie. Now imagine you’re best friends are Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and throw in Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Michael Cera and Craig Robinson just for good measure. Now imagine you’re given millions of dollars to make the most ridiculous, no holds barred apocalypse movie where the only notable girl in the film is Emma Watson. Sounds like a dream, right? Welcome to This is the End.

The Place Beyond the Pines - Review by Gene Rich

Gosling and Cooper deliver spellbinding performances as their lives intertwine in this dramatic powerhouse of love, death, crime and punishment. There is no simple way to explain this film. It is part love story, part thriller, part action and all drama. There is not a single weak performance from the entire cast and Cianfrance’s direction and script are superb in their ability to be astounding and understated in equal measures, an achievement unto itself. In a movie that could easily be made into two separate films, Cianfrance has been able to seamlessly tie the two parts together with great effect leaving the audience full to the brim. This is not a happy movie, I’ve just gotta say that. There are times when I was cringing to the edge of my seat; I just wanted it to end but the ability of all the actors to convey their emotions without overacting was a beautiful thing and it kept me interested and engaged throughout, that and an intriguing story.
