East of West Volume Three: There is no us Review

Image
Jonathan Hickman has carved quite the name for himself in the world of comica. Where Grant Morrison is associated with psychedelic trips, Mark Millar with high-octane ultra-violence, and Brian Michael Benids with superhero soap operas, Hickman has his reputation firmly planted in his love of high concept science fiction and intricate plots. Seriously, no one does sci-fi quite like Hickman, and the first time I read one his books, the first volume of The Manhattan Projects, it took me a solid week to process what I had just read. He's a skilled writer with a unique voice to say the least, but there is one slight problem, his schtick is starting to wear thin on me. Hickman has such a clear and definitive writing style that often his characters become overpowered by it, reduced to cogs in the overarching plot machine. The battle begins in March with our first look at Marvel's latest event, Avengers VS X-Men. Who will reign supreme? Who will be left licking their wounds? X-Men may be a scrappy bunch but I've got my money on The Avengers.  Check out the official press release and some beautiful art by Frank Cho and the return of the Scarlet Witch.

Marvel News - Fantastic "Three" Sells Out!

Image
FF #583 Second Printing News from Marvel is showing that Fantastic Four #583 which kicks off the anticipated "Three" storyline has sold out before it actually went on sale! Including variants! This is further proof to the fact that at present Jonathan Hickman can do no wrong. I've been reading S.H.I.E.L.D and loving it, I don't actually know what's going on but I know I like it... But never fear true believers, as always, second printing variants are on their way to fill the void.
