WONDER WOMAN - REVIEW

Image
DC fans your champion has finally arrived! Huzzah! No longer will you lament what could've been. Wonder Woman breathes urgent life into a franchise which has withered like a slowly deflating balloon. I've got a few niggling complaints, but Wonder Woman is a tonne of fun. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was our introduction to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman; sadly her role was limited to a bit of banter and the climatic fight scene with Doomsday. For such an iconic character, it was an underwhelming debut. All is forgiven now that director Patty Jenkins ( Monster ) has delivered such an entertaining film. Mind you it's another origin story, and I’m almost done with origin stories, mostly because they follow rigid templates where seemingly minor details are substituted depending on the hero’s specific journey. That being said in the case of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, she’s an Amazonian Princess from the mystical land of Themyscira, which is exclusively popula...

Warner Bros officially announce Snyder's Batman & Superman film

Image
Man of Steel has made a ridiculous amount of money proving that the superhero boom has still got a hell of a lot of steam left in it with Zack Snyder returning to write and direct an as yet unnamed film featuring both Superman and Batman, the world's finest. While this information may already be all over the internet following San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros have only just released their official press release which outlines the production team and other related details.

Superman Unbound (DVD) Review

Image
Based on Geoff Johns' and Gary Frank's "Brainiac" story arc from Action Comics #886-870, Superman Unbound is perfectly timed to take advantage of the runaway freight train that is Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.  The 16th film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, Superman Unbound offers a look at Superman that is sadly missed in many an adaptation. What Unbound manages to do in 70 short minutes, is show just how much Superman's adopted home means to him. This human element is what makes Superman not only relatable but also interesting. Without such a focus, he can often come across as being quite vanilla. With no real threat to his safety, it is his attachment to the things and people around him that gives importance to his exploits.

Batman: Arkham Origins Trailer Revealed

Image
The more information that comes out about Batman: Arkham Origins, the more I want it to be here now! Unfortunately the all new trailer doesn't show any gameplay but what it does show is that the team in charge of the game has a knack for story telling. However, we do have a couple of screenshots that look as though they're from gameplay. More than just an awesome CGI clip, it shows a Batman who hasn't yet become as grizzled and surly as he was in the most recent games. It also shows a Batman who, while still kicking all sorts of butt, isn't quite as masterful as he will become. It also shows that a CGI film needs to be made, now! Check out the full trailer and details on preorder bonuses after the jump!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Launches UltraViolet in Australia

Image
Personally, I loved The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey just as I've loved all of Peter Jackson's efforts in Middle Earth. While Jackson is known to press the envelope himself, it's Warner Bros that are forging new ground. Set for release on May 1st, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on DVD, Blu Ray and in an Australian first, UltraViolet.  What's UltraViolet? I hear you ask. Should I buy suncream? You openly wonder. Aw, not another crappy Milla Jovovich movie! You harumph. Well,  fear not. Find out all of the details after the jump!

DVD Review - Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 4

Image
Since it's release in 2008, Star Wars: The Clone Wars has quickly become a fan favourite among geeks young and old. Often lauded as being the most enjoyable extension of Lucas' franchise, it expands upon a number of storylines that are mentioned in passing in the films or hold particular relevance to a number of main characters. Set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, it fills in a number of blanks and gives relevance to a number of characters that seem important in the films, such as Count Dooku and General Grievous. Executive Producer George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation present Star Wars™: The Clone Wars™ The Complete Season Four. The battle to save the galaxy reaches new heights of peril and new depths of darkness. The valiant Jedi Knights and clone troopers defend exotic planets from enemy forces. They wage war underwater, battle across a night-shrouded world and take on the merciless Death Watch. Our heroes are tested like never before as Anakin i...

Movie News - Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Oz Release Details

Image
DC Universe Animated Original Movies are without a doubt the more polished and enjoyable of "the big 2" comic companies, so what happens when they take on one of the greatest superhero graphic novels of all time?  Legendary creator Frank Miller is one of many well known writers to give his own spin on the caped crusader but not many have created something so unique yet still instantly recognisable as Batman. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of a retired Batman. Worn out and middle aged he had hung up his cape and cowl only to be called again off the bench to fight an all new foe. Hitting shelves (digital and physical) throughout Australia on October 3, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is sure to thrill Batfans old and new. Check out all the details, special features, competition details and trailer after the jump!

Game News - Injustice: Gods Among Us Reveals Catwoman

Image
Injustice: Gods Among Us looks insane! It has exactly what every superhero game needs, scale. Instead of punching on like mere mortals, the folks at NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive are creating a game that is every bit as epic as a superhero beat em' up should be.  The big question is, how will the less powerful characters fare? Characters like, I don't know, Catwoman for instance? Well, check out the all new reveal trailer below to find out!

Game Review - Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (PS3)

Image
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters let's us take the reigns and wield the power of Hal Jordan as portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the soon to be released Green Lantern from Warner Bros. Reminiscent of beat em ups of old, this game actually reminded me of games like Streets of Rage, not in terms of the production values, but just in relation to the button-mashingly addictive game play. Considering that this game is based on a film which is based on a comic book, it is surprisingly fun!

Review - Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

Image
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is the seventh in the "DC Universe Original Animated Movie" series. It sees the usual JLA crew of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Martian Manhunter travel to a parallel Earth in order to help out an alternate Lex Luthor. The latest in the DCU:OAM is by far the best of a good bunch. The film is somewhat loosely based on "Crisis on Earth Three" from Justice League of America #29–30 published in 1964 and Grant Morrison's JLA: Earth 2. The story begins on a parallel world in which Lex Luthor and The Joker, alternatively named The Jester, are heroic figures on the run from the "Crime Syndicate". The Syndicate are a Bizarro version of the Justice League led by Ultraman (Brian Bloom), an evil doppelganger of Superman. Lex makes his way to the DCU to plead with the JLA to assist in removing the Crime Syndicate from their position of power as overlords on his home world. I won't go anymore into the st...
