Given that 2016 marks 75 years since Captain America made his first appearance, by punching Mr. Adolf Hitler square in the jaw no less, I thought I would take a couple of minutes to look back on a few of my favourite Cap stories from the comic book page and the silver screen. But before I do I thought I would quickly address the elephant in the room ... What does a character so strongly linked to the USA have to offer a dork from Australia? Many people, including myself many years ago, write off Captain America. For the uninitiated he seems like a propaganda-driven caricature, a two dimensional personification of the United States' interests and a constant reminder of America’s bombastic ego. After all, the colours and heraldry of the US flag are emblazoned across his uniform and the name ‘Captian America’ isn’t exactly subtle. The battle begins in March with our first look at Marvel's latest event, Avengers VS X-Men. Who will reign supreme? Who will be left licking their wounds? X-Men may be a scrappy bunch but I've got my money on The Avengers.  Check out the official press release and some beautiful art by Frank Cho and the return of the Scarlet Witch.

I didn't think it was possible. I swore to myself after "Fear Itself" I would pass on any upcoming event titles, and then this happens. Avengers Vs X-Men is shaping up to be a tremendously fun event in contrast to the brooding that overwhelmed Fear Itself. To make things even better, Bendis will be in Australia for Supanova when this comic drops! Grab a copy, get it signed an pick his brain when in Melbourne or the Gold Coast. My pull list has started to get way out of control, no thanks to Brubaker. This guy is sending me broke. I was actually thinking, although briefly, that I could pass on Winter Soldier but after seeing Guice's art I don't think I can resist. Check out some unlettered pages after the jump.

As one would expect, the market is going to be flooded by Captain America related books in the lead up to the Marvel Studios film later this year. One such book is Captain America #1 from artist Steve McNiven and consumate Captain America scribe, Ed Brubaker. It comes with a handful of variant covers which are all stellar, especially the Coipel one. Read on for your first look at Captain America #1. Will I buy this book? Yes. Am I excited over this? The good folks at the house of ideas have been so kind as to supply us with a preview of the upcoming Captain America #611 by the incomparable team of Ed Brubaker and Daniel Acuna. I don't mean to speak ill of anyone who came before but nobody writes Cap like Brubaker.

The good folks at Marvel Comics have supplied us with a sneak peek at Octobers  Incognito: Bad Influences #1 by t he Eisner Award-winning team of Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips and Val Staples. 

The good folks from Marvel have provided us with a preview of the upcoming Secret Avengers #6 due to be released on the 27th of October.  Written by Ed Brubaker and with art by Mike Deodato Jr, Secret Avengers tells the story of a black ops team of superheroes, assembled by Steve Rogers in order to undertake all of the operations "unsuitable" for the other Avengers teams.
