Farscape Season 1 Blu Ray Review

Image
No offense intended but if someone were to recommend a sci-fi series which is filled with Muppets, set inside a living ship, produced in, and starring actors from Australia I'd call them crazy. Luckily, Farscape is the kind of series which shines in spite of expectations.  Flung through a cosmic wormhole, American astronaut John Crichton finds himself fighting for his life in the middle of an alien prison break, inside a Leviathan a living space ship on the far side of the galaxy. Hunted by the relentless Crais, a commander of the galactic enforcers known as Peacekeepers, Crichton joins forces with the alien convicts hulking warrior Ka D’Argo; blue-skinned Priestess Z’haan; diminutive Dominar Rigel XVI; the giant symbiote Pilot and the irreversibly contaminated Peacekeeper Aeryn Sun. Each desperately seeks a way home, but first, they have to find a way to trust one another. Daring escapes and selfless acts of courage forge a measure of loyalty, friendship and even love....

Edge of Tomorrow - Review

Image
Tom Cruise is arguably at his best and most likeable in sci-fi action films. I love a good Tom Cruise sci-fi and Edge Of Tomorrow is no different, delivering a satisfying journey which is chock full of thrills with an overall sense of fun. Minority Report was brilliantly thought-provoking and emotionally affecting, Equilibrium was a pleasant surprise with some engaging new concepts and visions of a future dystopia and Edge Of Tomorrow is like a sci-fi cross between Groundhog Day and Saving Private Ryan , with a hero who keeps on perishing and “resetting” his day. An important aspect to enjoying these "repeating" scenario type films is the element of surprise, so without telling too much, Edge Of Tomorrow takes place in a futuristic world war. Most of Europe has already been seized and the Americans, British and we assume other countries are allied once again as the United Defence Force, but this time they are fighting an alien enemy called Mimics. The film follow...

D4VE Issues 1-3 Review

Image
You know how it goes. Man invents robots. Robots help man accomplish menial tasks. Man makes robots more intelligent to do slightly less menial tasks. Robots become too intelligent. Intelligent robots go out and massacre the humans they were built to serve. Welcome to the post-human world of D4VE, by writer Ryan Ferrier and artist Valentin Ramon. Ferrier and Ramon serve us up a future in which robots have not only eradicated all the squishy humans, they have also wiped out every other living species in the galaxy. If you think this all sounds a bit bleak and melancholy you would be very wrong indeed. D4VE is a hilarious and lighthearted romp that handles the genocide of humanity with about the same level of reverence South Park gave Scientology, and contains about as much foul language and fart jokes to boot. To say I'm a fan would be an understatement. D4VE opens with our hero, who goes by the name of D4VE surprisingly enough, working a boring desk job. Although once a...

The Hub Productions have just announced that both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will be gracing our shores during their appearances at the 2014 Whoniverse.

Anthony Montgomery Interview - Supanova Sydney 2013

Image
Supanova was positively bursting with talent this year and one of my absolute favourite interview was with Mr Anthony Montgomery. While he may be best known as Ensign Mayweather from Star Trek Enterprise, he's very quickly carving himself a nice little niche as a comic book creator. Not only is he an absolute gentleman and a star in one of my favourite entertainment franchises but he is also the fantastically talented and humble creator of Miles Away. Follow on after the jump for our Supa-Interview.
