Assassin's Creed Unity Review (PS4)

Image
Worst. Barber. Ever Assassin's Creed is back and this time it's bringing its A-game exclusively to next/current gen consoles in the form of Assassin's Creed Unity, set during the French Revolution of the late 1700's, you are Arno a young man who overcomes personal adversity only to find himself recruited into a shadowy league of assassin's in their fight to... well... fight. They fight against authority, Templars and various other ragamuffins. The game unfurls and reveals a pseudo-science fiction undercurrent in which a dodgy tech company is doing dodgy things. Sound familiar? Well, it's very much a rehash of what has come previously in the franchise with little offered in terms of gameplay innovation but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Bad things are yet to come.  "Last one there's a rotten croissant!" So as to expedite the review process, perhaps an airing of negatives should be done before progressing any further. This...

Ubisoft's E3 2014 Video Recap

Image
Just as with EA, here are all of the trailers from Ubisoft's E3 presentation. Without a doubt some of the most exciting games to be announced over the next 12 months are coming from Ubisoft. Just a small word of warning, the trailer for The Division is just as depressing as it is incredible! Can't wait for it!

Rainbow Six returns with Rainbow Six: Siege

Image
You could be forgiven for thinking that this is the latest in the SWAT franchise but SIEGE marks the return of yet another fan-favourite franchise with TOM CLANCY’S RAINBOW SIX SIEGE revealed for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The gameplay trailer shows some interesting developments in the series although looks a little like a Machinima video complete with professional voices.  Regardless, this looks to be a heart pounding return of an FPS legend. Watch Dogs (PS4) Review

Image
Watch Dogs has arrived and to great fanfare. This has been one of the most anticipated games of the current (previously next) gen of consoles but to look at the release through such expectant glasses would certainly be a disservice. You follow the exploits of Aiden Pearce, a super-duper hacker type guy, who seems to be the embodiment of the current anti-NSA movement and, in short, you use Pearce’s abilities as a hacker to avenge his loved ones who were killed by bad guys. It’s a revenge story, with smartphones. Along the way you’ll amass a whole swag of skills, weapons, vehicles and sidekicks to help you out. For the most part, all of the characters in Watch Dogs have been seen before but the most lackluster of all would have to be Pearce himself. For a guy on a mission of revenge, he seems rather devoid of emotion and lacks the brutality that we’re used to seeing from the Punisher or Oldboy. Sure, the decision to kneecap a Police Officer or brain him is ultimately up to ...

Child of Light (Xbox 360) Review

Image
Child of Light, the new title from Ubisoft, is a delightfully gorgeous pseudo-indie fairytale role playing game. Not something you'd expect from the team that brought you Far Cry 3. The story is mixture of Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland but with a Studio Ghibli-esque take. You play as Aurora, a girl from 1895 Austria who succumbs to an ailment causing her to fall asleep. While those around her mourn, Aurora seemingly wakes up in the mythical world of Lemuria, a world which has had its sun, moon and stars stolen by the Black Queen. Aurora is tasked with recovering the stolen celestial bodies, ultimately reuniting with her father. As with any RPG, Aurora is joined on this journey by a playable companion and several unlikely allies she meets on the way. Made using the UbiArt Framework engine, previously used on Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, Child of Light is full of amazingly beautiful hand-drawn 2D landscapes which make it feel like an interactive story b...

It's not long now until Ubisoft's next big release and just in case you wanted to know, I'm excited. Watch Dogs promises to be an expansive, open-world adventure the scale of which has never been seen. Ubisoft Announces Far Cry: Wild Expedition

Image
Ubisoft, one of the most consistently gaming publishers, have just announced the release of the collected Far Cry works in Far Cry Wild Expedition. Upon its release in 2004, Far Cry was one of the most graphically advance games on the market. Never before had landscapes looked so lush and realistic. Add to that some fantastic gameplay and an increasingly creepy story line and you had one of the best gaming experiences of the generation. Thankfully, Ubisoft have decided that current gen gamers should have the opportunity to experience all the fun for themselves.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Freedom Cry Releases on 19/12

Image
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has proven to be the stand out title on PS4 with countless hours of gameplay available just through the main story and various side missions but there's even more to come. In just 2 days time, we Aussies and our NZ brethren will be able to download the Freedom Cry DLC which tells the story of Edward Kenway's former first mate, Adewale. One of the coolest things about this DLC is the character himself. Throughout the main campaign Adewale proved himself to be extremely interesting and hinted at a much grander story to tell. As an added bonus, Freedom Cry promises to be bloody, brutal and bad arse.
