Tim Winton's The Turning Showcases Australia's Best

If you thought that The Great Gatsby was a great Australian release, you were dead wrong. While it was directed by an Aussie and shot locally, there wasn't much more to it than that. The Turning, however, looks as though it could be one of the greatest Aussie releases in recent memory. Based on Tim Winton's anthology of short stories, The Turning showcases 17 directors telling 17 stories, each of which is blessed to have some incredible Australian actors on board such as Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Mia Wasikowska and many more. Described as being blunt yet sophisticated, The Turning is an extremely exciting Australian production.

Movie Review - Captain America: The First Avenger

The film's tag line asks us to "Discover the Origin of the First Avenger" and discover we do. Set across two distinct time periods, Marvel Studio's latest blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger, takes us back in time to Europe and the United States in the 1940's. It is here that we meet our eponymous hero Steve Roger's, a 5 foot tall weakling who so desperately wants to join the fight against Nazi's and bullies across the world. Director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman, Jurassic Park 3, October Sky) takes the helm in this last Marvel film before next years release of The Avengers, and what a blockbuster that is shaping up to be! Continue on after the jump for my review and a few sneak peak videos.

Click for a Big Squizz Welcome true believers! 2011 truly is a great year for geeks everywhere. I remember being a young pup, dreaming of the day that Spiderman, Wolverine and Captain America would grace the silverscreen. Sure, it meant that I had to sit through Ghost Rider, Elektra and both FF films to get there but AMERICA'S FINEST HERO IS HERE... soon... For those of you that haven't been unlucky enough to meet me, I have a Cap tattoo, yeah, I'm that much of a geek. So I have a vested interest in this film. I don't want people to be asking "hey, isn't that the shield from that awful movie?". That being said, I'm feeling very confident. Judging by the trailer, it's going to be a belter! Plus, it has Hugo Weaving playing a bad guy.
