Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw review

Image
Hobbs and Shaw is dumb, bordering on ludicrous, but dripping with self awareness. Which ultimately makes it a big ol bag of fun. I personally hate when people suggest they just “switch their brain off” when they go into a film, because it implies a lack of connection with the screen. I understand what they’re saying though, they want a movie that does what it says on the box. Let me tell you my friends, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw is just that kind of movie. Is it any good? Well here’s the thing, the action is plentiful without ever being too original, the jokes flow thick and fast and the chemistry between the leads is palpable. So yeah, I’ll go so far as to say it’s good. It’s worth a watch on a Friday night with mates after a few post work beers. I predict Hobbs and Shaw will dominate at the global box office, not only cause of brand recognition but mostly due to Dwayne Johnson’s goliath presence and Jason Statham’s well established charm/athleticism. ...

Parker (film) Review

Image
Donald E. Westlake, also known under the pseudonym Richard Stark, is responsible for a character who has apparently blossomed into a pop-culture sweetheart in recent years - the hard boiled, remorseless criminal known only as Parker. Probably best known to my fellow geeks from Darwyn Cooke's comic book adaptations through IDW, Parker is back but this time on celluloid starring everyones favourite action hero, Jason Statham. Before delving into the review, I'll admit to having never read the source material so any comment on the physical appearance of the character is purely based on research. That said, this seems to be somewhat of another "Jack Reacher" conundrum.

*CLOSED* Win the action packed PARKER on DVD

Image
Based on bestselling novels by Donald E. Westlake, Parker is anti-hero who lives by a personal code of ethics: Don't steal from people who can't afford it and don't hurt people who don't deserve it. Set to punch its way onto your TV screen, PARKER stars Jason Statham as cult anti-hero Parker, and Jennifer Lopez in a gritty ride of non-stop action directed by Academy Award® winner Taylor Hackford (The Devil’s Advocate, Ray). Thanks to our pals at Hopscotch, we've got 5 copies of PARKER on DVD to give away! All you have to do is fill out the form below and you're in the running to score yourself a copy. Movie Review - The Expendables 2

Image
The Expendables 2 is a wank, a 103 minute long masturbatory session. The first Expendables film was a ludicrous testosterone filled gun fest and apparently, The Expendables have been on the juice since. The second outing in what is undoubtedly a burgeoning franchise is full of so much ham and cheese that it completely destroys any possible chance of being kosher on any level.

Movie Previews - Killer Elite Trailer

Image
Now, here's a film that you may not have heard much about. To be honest, I hadn't until this trailer fell into my lap this morning but from watching the trailer I'm really looking forward to watching De Niro kick some arse! Jason Statham looks like he is doing a wonderful Jason Statham impersonation while Clive Owen does a wonderful Nicolas Cage impersonation. All of that aside, it actually looks like a good fun action film! Check out the trailer after the jump.
