Episode 36! Stu and Billy are back this week to discuss Logan ! Logan   is a directed by James Mangold ( Identity, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuman, The Wolverine ) and is the third and final Wolverine film which was spun off from the X-Men film series. Set in the year 2029, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hide out on the Mexican border. Logan's attempts to keep away from the world are thrown up in the air when a young mutant, Laura (Dafne Keen), arrives on his doorstep pursed by dark forces. The film also features Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Eriq La Salle The discussion about Logan has some spoilers in it so please be warned. As well as the film, Stu and I discuss what else we've been watching this week, and look over the latest in movie news. Stu and I take over this week's episode for another one of our cinematic adventure reviews. This time we watch the latest Fox Studios Marvel Film, Deadpool! We're gonna be honest with you (as the Geek of Oz crew is on all things) we loved the film. So have a listen to us discuss how much we loved and laughed at the film. We try to not delve into spoilers too much in this episode, and we also discuss some of the origins of Deadpool from the various Marvel comic books he has featured in. In our excitement recording this podcast episode some bad language may have been used, apologies in advance. As always it would make our day if you could take a couple of minutes to rate and reviews us on iTunes or drop us some feedback below! Really keen to have your input in the show. Enjoy! -Billy                                       Get it from Podomatic  here      ...

We Can Never Go Home, Volume One - Review

Image
In a comic book landscape too often dominated by explosions, superpowered violence, over the top action and bloated marketing budgets, We Can Never Go Home from BlackMask Studios comes across as essential reading. Channeling the outcast spirit and perspective that made X-Men resonate with so many readers, We Can Never Go Home trades superheroics for gritty crime shenanigans and convoluted continuity for a simple, but compelling, self-enclosed narrative. What started off as an impulse buy has, 45 minutes later, become one of my favourite comics of the year.  Meet Madison and Duncan, two teenagers who find themselves on the run after a violent turn of events. Madison possesses superhuman strength while Duncan gets by with a sassy mouth and a handgun. Duncan is the school weirdo/bully punching bag while Madison exists in the popular girls clique, but both feel out of place in the savage world of their small town high school. The pair start off as strangers who just happe...

X-men Battle of the Atom HC Review

Image
I'm not usually a big fan of events. It doesn't matter who's writing it or what characters are starring in it, I always walk away at very least a little disappointed. So naturally I came into 'Battle of the Atom' with skepticism. Even with Brain Micheal Bendis' current flawless runs on 'All New X-men' and 'Uncanny X-men' I've been hurt too many times before to dive into a new event without any reservations. And I was right to be a bit nervous, as 'Battle of the Atom' is a highly entertaining albeit confusing affair. Marvel's 'Battle of the Atom' hardcover collects the entire 'Battle of the Atom' event (All New X-men #16-17, Uncanny X-men #12-13, Wolverine and the X-men #36-37, X-men: Battle of the Atom #1-2 and X-men #5-6). Although Brian Wood and Jason Aaron script their usual X-men series for the event (X-men as well as Wolverine and the X-men respectively), it's obvious that this is very much Bend...

To make things even better, Bendis will be in Australia for Supanova when this comic drops! Grab a copy, get it signed an pick his brain when in Melbourne or the Gold Coast. AvX has Check out Jim Cheung's cover after the jump!

Interview - Vice Admiral Victor Von Doom Gischler

Image
Victor Gischler is the current X-Men writer for Marvel comics and author of between one and eight novels... the answer is seven. Local to Baton Rouge, Louisiana he earned a Ph.D in English at the University of Southern Mississippi and worked as a Professor of something before becoming an Edgar and Anthony Award nominated author. No less than three of his works are currently destined for the silver screen, Gun Monkeys, Pulp Boy and the incredibly dark, witty and debaucherous Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse. His stories are filled with unassuming protagonists who are thrust into ridiculous situations full of sex, ultra-violence  and mayhem all the while driven by an undercurrent of dark humour.

2010 - A Geek Odyssey

Image
With 2010 coming to a head I thought I would take time to reflect on the highs and lows and what I am most excited about heading into the new year. I've also called in some favours from Twitter pals and a few big name creators including Marvel's finest: Mr Brian Michael Bendis, Jeff Parker, Victor Gischler and the man with a beard to rival that of Jason Aaron, Mr Chris Samnee. Read on for more!

Marvel Preview - X-Men #5

Image
The good folks at Marvel have supplied us with a preview of November's X-Men #5 by the crazy-awesome team of Victor Gischler and Paco Medina. Every issue of this run has been sold out and it's easy to see why. Issue #4 was yet another sell out so, as usual, Marvel are gracing us with a second printing variant with an all-new cover by the one and only Adi Granov.

Marvel Preview - Uncanny X-Force #2

Image
Issue 2 Cover The good folks at Marvel have supplied us with a sneak peek at next months Uncanny X-Force #2 by the incredibly talented team of Rick Remender and  Jerome Opeña. Their "first" mission has all but failed and has lead to the imminent return of the blue meanie himself, Apocalypse. Could this be the end of X-Force? Somehow I don't think so...

Marvel News - Tron Variant Covers

X-Men #4 Cove r I have really been enjoying the relaunched X-Men series by Victor Gischler and Paco Medina, and luckily enough the good folks at Marvel have supplied us with a sneak peak of issue #4 as well as the 2nd printing variant of X-Men #3. One question remains, when did Jubilee get implants?

Marvel News - Dead X-Men

Image
Marvel Comics have released a teaser image with the tagline "All new, All different - Coming 2010". The All New, All Different slogan has become synonymous with the "X" line of books over the years and in the image it shows a number of X-Alumni who have been thought dead, including Banshee and Thunderbird.

Review - X-Men #3

Granov Cover X-Men #3 $3.99 USD - In Stores Now COVERS:      Adi Granov, Marko Djurdjevic & Paco Medina WRITER:       Victor Gischler PENCILS:      Paco Medina INKS:            Juan Francisco Velasco COLORS:     Marte Gracia With the exception of the Kyle/Yost X Force series, I haven't been reading any X titles for quite a few years. That being said, I'm not feeling entirely overwhelmed or lost by this new X-Men series. Probably the biggest surprise is how much Jubilee seems to have... filled out. Did I miss something? Is she supposed to be so... buxom? I am a big fan of Medina's art, his version of Wolverine is probably one of the best out there at the moment and I think his art is a great fit for the current storyline. The panels of Wolverine slicing through swathes of vampire in the underground were great fun. Gischl...
