Godzilla (PS4) Review

Image
THE SHORT VERSION I'm not sure if it'd be fair to call Godzilla a movie tie-in game, but it certainly feels like one. It's the kind of exercise in brand management designed to give the illusion of wish-fulfillment - "Wow, I get to play as Godzilla after watching him smash buildings for two hours? Awesome!" - and instead delivers an experience that admirably disappoints (I'll explain that odd dichotomy later). Godzilla is not the game I expected, nor was it the game I was hoping for. Other reviewers have already savaged it to kingdom come, but I don't feel as strongly as they do. It was definitely flawed, but in an endearing way, like a paperback novel scribed by a crayon-wielding Kindergartener. Playstation 4 Console Unfortunately you've got buckley's chance of getting your hands on this monsterous gaming machine before Christmas but even an "IOU 1x PS4" card will make for a pretty spectacular gift. The Lamborghini of gaming consoles, this console is THE hot ticket item for Christmas 2013 and has been described as a "ball tearing beast"... by us. Regardless of un-popped popcorn, seat kicking children and errant Jaffa's, watching a blackbuster on the big screen can't be beat and with titles like Godzilla, Robocop, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on offer, 2014 is shaping up to be the year when home viewing just won't suffice. Pacific Rim Review

Image
Over the last few years, Guillermo Del Toro has been involved in a whole bunch of films as Producer, Executive Producer, Associate Producer and even as a voice actor but Pacific Rim is the only film he has Directed since 2008's Hellboy II. That said, Del Toro's five year directorial lull has done nothing to diminish his ability for making an incredibly fun film, an incredibly fun film like Pacific Rim.

May might very well be the best month to be a Japanophile. Not only does it see the Evangelion Art Exhibition reach Sydney and Melbourne after the Gold Coast, but we also have a whole swag of incredible Japanese cinema in stores now.
