Geek of Oz

Tara Strong is one of those names that pops up at the end of countless animated series such as Ben 10, Teen Titans, Batman: Brave and the Bold and much, much more. Most recently she entered our homes in the guise of Harley Quinn in Rocksteady Studio's best selling game, Arkham City.  Tara took time out of her busy schedule, during the holiday crunch no less, to fill us in on the voice over biz and her time as everybody's favourite sassy Psycho, Harley Quinn.

This is where it all began. Undoubtedly the most successful and perhaps the most significant anime series of all time, Gundam is so much more than just another franchise and is as popular now as when its eponymous series was released in 1979. Filled with action, political intrigue and social commentary Mobile Suit Gundam ( 機動戦士ガンダム)  is to Japan as Star Wars (or Star Trek) is to the West. "The year is 0079 of the Universal Century. The Earth Federation and its space colonies are engaged in an apocalyptic war. The rebellious Principality of Zeon, using humanoid fighting machines called mobile suits, has all but vanquished the Federation. Now the Federation's last hope is the prototype mobile suit Gundam. When a twist of fate makes young civilian Amuro Ray the Gundam's pilot, his own battle begins."

Steven Spielberg has an unusual quirk not shared by many of his peers. He has the habit of frequently releasing two very different films in the one year. In 1993 he brought us Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List , in 2002 Minority Report and Catch Me if You Can and in 2005 Munich and War of the Worlds . 2011 sees Mr Spielberg present The Adventures of Tin Tin and War Horse . War Horse is based up on the Michael Morpurgo children’s novel of the same name and follows the friendship between a young man, Albert, and his horse Joey as the threat of World War I looms over England. Albert and Joey are separated at the start of the war and we see what both will endure on the road to being reunited.

Reviewing The Guild is pretty much pointless. It is the kind of series that has a cult following of people who have been with it from the beginning, gamers in their own right who are well versed in the MMORPG realm. But, just in case there are still a few stragglers who have yet to cotton here is my gift to you. "After unexpectedly meeting Fawkes for a post-match drink (and sleeping with him), Codex begins Season Four contemplating whether or not she should tell the Guild about what happened. Meanwhile, Vork makes the decision that the Knights of Good should obtain their own Guild Hall, a newly-implemented (and costly) feature that came with the expansion released at the start of Season Three. Initially, the fact that the type of Hall they want - called the "Deluxe Castle" - would require them to raise half a million gold puts the Guild off the idea but, when Codex offhandedly mentions that their rivals, the Axis of Anarchy, are planning to get their own, the Guild...

In a recent inter view Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In), Director of the new film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, recounted a conversation he had with John Le Carre in which he attempted to describe his trepidation at making a film adaptation of the legendary authors work. John Le Carre quickly put him at ease when he explained the simple fact that no matter how the film turned out, his novel would live on unaffected. This meant that the director had the ultimate freedom because there is no way the source material could be damaged. This is an interesting way to see a film adaptation, it shouldn't so much be a case of capturing every aspect of the book because to do that the film would have to be sixteen hours long and the film making would suffer accordingly, it's not the role of the film to retell the story. The Muppets are old news, all washed up. Miss Piggy is the new Anna Wintour, Gonzo a successful businessman and Kermit a recluse. They are relics of a bygone era unknown to the Selena Gomez generation. Sure, they've been at the back of many a mind but always at the forefront of one, young Walter. The basic storyline of The Muppets is somewhat of a commentary on the current state of our felt friends, children of the late-great Jim Henson. This is the first theatrical release from the franchise in a whopping 12 years. Time enough to allow the rise of a new breed of family friendly entertainment in the guise of Justin Bieber, Glee and the aforementioned Gomez. The real test with this movie was to see whether it would appeal to its original audience, Gen X and early Gen Y's, or transcend generations to a broader appeal. It's time to play the music...
